This short note gives particulars of the performance of a variety of Ragi known as E.C. 47, evolved by the Millets Specialist and tried on the Central Farm during the two seasons 1929-30 and 1930-31. Raised on 23 million acres out of a total 34-38 million acres under cultivation in the Presidency, Ragi is next to Cholam, the chief millet crop, and its importance to the ryot is considerable. Any method adopted to improve the quantity or the quality of the grain is a step taken in the right direction.
