To improve the position of the farmer either with regard to his economic position or health-two inter-dependent factors-is the problem on hand. I shall in this paper attempt to place before you certain hard facts which every ryot in the country, especially in the West Coast, has to care for to improve his agricultural programme. We have to remember at the outset that the prosperity of the country with about 80 per cent of its population engaged in agriculture, must be identical with the advance that the country will make in economic farming, in providing food for the increasing population and in supplying raw materials.
