Studies on Heritability and Genetic advance in Bhendi (Abelmoschus esculentus (L) Moench)

Abstract

Haritability and genetic advance were of lower maginitude to all the six characters studied, nearly half of the crosses exhibiting negative estimat:s. Genetic gain of per. ceptible magnitude combined with high mean expression has been recorded by the cross AE 712 x 180 for number of branches per plant. AE 593 x 180 for fuit width and AE 719 > 10% for yield of fruits and thess crosses would be useful for further selection programmes.
