A field trial was conducted during the summer season of 1980 to study the response of groundnut to Rhizobium seed inoculation. Data obtained on the experiment revealed that the nodulation and dry weight of plants were maximum at 120 days while that of nitrogen fixation were maximum at 60 days of plant growth. There were signifi- cant variations among the strains used in nodulation, nitrogen fixation and yield of groundnut All the strains except TAL 309 gave significantly higher yield over uni- noculated control. Application of nitrogen without inoculation has reduced the num ber and dry weight of nodules compared to uninoculated control.
