Abstract

Seven diverse cultivars of wheat (Triticum aestivum Linn. emend. thell) were cros sed in diallel and parents and F1s evaluated for seven quantitative charactors. Yield he terosis to the extent of 64.34% over mid parent and 54.63% over batter parent wa rocorded. Both general and specific combining ability were important for all the trait studied. However, non additive gone offects were predominant in the inheritance of grai yield and its direct components. WL 711, HP 524, and J 291 for grain yield and it components and 'Lok 1 for carliness and dwarfness had high goa effects. "WL 7111 Lok 1 and NP 824, x 'UP 301, having highest heterosis, mean performance and desirable scn effects need to be exploited for higher grain yield.
