EFFECT OF DIFFERENT DOSES OF PHOSPHORUS ON GROWTH, YIELD AND QUALITY OF COWPEA (Vigna unguiculata (L.) WALP).

Abstract

A field experiment was conducted at the College of Agriculture, Gwalior (M. P.) to study the response of three cowpea varieties (Phillipines early, GC 176 and GC 185) and four levels of phosphorus on various plant characters (dry matter accumulation, number of branches and leaves and also on the yield and yield contributing characters viz. number of seeds per pod. Weight of 10 pods, number and weight of green pods per plant and yield of green pods (q/ha). From the pooled data, it was observed that yield and most of the yield attnbutes were optimum at 40 kg P,O./ha. Variety GC 185 prodced maximum green pod yield but GC 176 with equel yield possessed better yield contributing traits.
