Abstract

Two field experiments in Palathurai (red) and Perianaickenpalayam (black) soil series were conducted during summer and Kharif season with four genotypes of gingelly under irrigated condition to study the performance and nutrient removal. The type TNAU 10, Co.1 and TMV 3 recorded higher seed yield, oil content and oil yield than C.7. Seed and oil yields in red soil were greater than in black soil. Oil content of seed was not influenced by soil types. A crop of gingelly yielding 600 kg/ha of seed removed 52, 6 and 35 kg N, P and K respectively indicating its non exhaustive nature for soil nutrients compared to cereals and other agricultural crops.
