Abstract

Relationship between quality and ear traits were studied in 58 high oil and protein strains of maize (Zea mays L.). The grain yield per plant showed significant positive association with all the eight yield and two quality traits (protein and oil). Path coefficient analysis revealed that four characters namely total number of grains per ear, girth of ear, shelling percentage and 100-kernel weight had maximum positive direct and indirect contribution of grain yield. Oil and protein did not exhibit direct effect on yield but it had indirect contribution via total number of grains, girth of ear and shelling percentage.
