Three-way, back and double crosses were produced involving four parents viz., two bunch type varieties, one in cach Virginia and Valencia cultures of groundnut. These crosses were evaluated in Si generations for the relative variability generated between and within families. Sufficient amount of variability between families was present for most of the characters and this was found to be more than within family variability for almost all the characters studied in all the crosses. This indicated the possibility of family selection in Si generation itself.
