Mulberry leaf maturity as a stress factor in rearing of CSR hybrid silk worms and its impact on cocoon characters and incidence of diseases

Abstract


The rearing of newly evolved productive bivoltine hybrid (CSR 2 CSR 5) was conducted with different leaf maturity (50, 65, 80, 90 days after pruning) during fifth instar. The rearing performance and the incidence of diseases were studied under optimum rearing conditions as well as in the presence of 1% infextious source of flacherie and grasserie. The results revealed that the cocoon characters were significantly improved, diseases incidence and spread of diseases were minimised in leaf fed wtih 65 days matured leaf.
