Abstract
Research work was carried out to assess the genetic variability parameters in the M 2
generation of greengram. Totally seven quantitative traits such as days to 50 per cent flowering,
days to maturity, plant height, number of pods per plant, number of seeds per pod, 100 seed
weight and single plant yield in M 2 generation were studied for the effect of mutation by
gamma rays. The results showed significant increase in the mean values of plant height,
number of pods per plant, number seeds per pod, 100 seed weight and single plant yield.
High genetic variability, heritability and genetic advance with significant enhancement in yield
and yield contributing traits were noticed. It is concluded that high yielding greengram
genotypes can be created through gamma irradiation.
