https://doi.org/10.29321/MAJ.10.001121In India, the prevalence of unhealthy dietary patterns and nutritionaldeficiencies remains a significant public health concern, posing challengesto food, nutrition, and health security. This paper explores key interventionsto improve women’s and children’s health and nutrition, including enhancingdiet quantity and quality, preventing micronutrient deficiencies like anaemia,and increasing access to essential nutrition and health services. Additionally,efforts to improve water and sanitation facilities and promote education,particularly regarding nutrition awareness, are highlighted. Empoweringwomen to delay and space pregnancies appropriately is emphasized ascrucial for maternal and child health. Despite existing efforts, policiesand programs in India have primarily focused on post-childbirth feedinginterventions, overlooking the importance of addressing maternal nutritionduring fetal development. Recognizing this gap, the paper highlights theparamount importance of addressing maternal nutrition to tackle the rootcauses of malnutrition and improve health outcomes for both mothers andchildren.
