Abstract

We publish, elsewhere, a notice which was widely circulated in the District of Coimbatore regarding the en- forcement of the Pest Act in relation to the "Pink Boll Worm" and "The Stem Weevil" on Cam- The Pest Act. bodia cotton in that District. Just now such a measure will come as a shock to most growers of Cambodia, as the plants are still in bearing but the Government is compelled to enforce this, in the larger interests of cotton growing in general in the District. We will only remind our readers that similar acts are in opera- tion in the other countries of the world and that the sacrifice of purely individual interests to the larger inter- ests of the community is an indication of a higher type of civilization. We can do no better service to the country than to explain to the discontented the paramount need for such a measure.
