Abstract


The Island of Cylone contains vast stretches of uncultivated lands and posses irrigation facilities.yet it depends almost etirely on Burma and India for its rice.,so much so that when its expert was stopped during the war,the people of this island were on the verge of starvati-on.The Jufna Peninsula alone imports every year evry two hundred thousand hugs of paddy and an equal quantity of mill rice.
