A PHYSIOLOGICAL STUDY OF DELAYED GERMINATION IN COTTON

Abstract

During the year 1930, a second generation of an interspecific cross, exhibited poor and delayed germination, while other crosses between different parents had uniform and quick sprou- ting. A large number of seedlings continued to come up even at the end of a month, often with their cotyledons enclosed in the seedcoat, in spite of the adequate moisture in the soil. These contributed very little to the yield, and their behaviour was very much similar to the second sown crop
