Abstract

Soil erosion is the depletion of soil from cultivated and cultivable land by various natural agencies. Unchecked erosion leads to the deterioration of the soil and the consequent impoverish- ment of the cultivator. This important subject is now engaging the earnest attention of all agricultural countries throughout the world. The chief object of this article is to bring to the notice of the Indian public the havoc played by soil erosion, and the seriousness of the problem in India so that by concerted action this evil may be success- fully combated.
