Abstract

There is a general Impression among the ryots that canes, when kept longer in the field after maturity, develop large amounts of pith with resultant loss in tonnage. A study was therefore undertaken to find out when pith begins to form, whether there is any increase in the same with the age of the crop, and whether it is influenced by environ- mental conditions like manuring or irrigation.
