Abstract

The importance of determining the ripening point of growing sugarcane is recognised by all who are connected with the production of sugar or jaggery. The sugarcane grower requires an easy method of determining when a particular variety cultivated by him could be expected to ripen, so that it might be harvested at a period at which, the sucrose content will be at a peak value, and at which utilisation of the sugar produced will be maximum and losses due to deterioration will be at a minimum.
