Abstract

In order to determine the differences in certain physiological attributes associated with drought resistance, studies were made on two corn hybrids which were observed to differ in their reaction to drought under field conditions. Physiological characteristics studied included seed germination and rate of growth under different moisture stress, determination of transpiration loss, dry matter content and water requirement, osmotic concentration of cell sap and nitrogen fraction during hardening. These aspects of approach to the problem of drought hardiness in crop plants have been reviewed extensively by Ashton (1948) and Levitt (1956).
