A trial was laid out in the year 1957-58 with the local ryots' practice of ploughing the fields repeatedly during summer till a fine tilth was obtained and broadcasting kar varieties, and the dopart- mental recommendation of puddling the field after receipt of water in the irrigation systom and transplanting as the two treatmonts. The resulta indicated that either the "ryots' mothod" or the "departmental method" had no advantago over the other.
