Pureline selection work on a variety Mattai kurusai popularly grown in coastal taluks of Thanjavur and in th neighbouring district over an area of about 40,000 acres was taker up. From the results of trials conducted during the course of sigh years both in the Research Station and in the ryots' holdings, it wa possible to isolate a high yielding selection which has been releaso as strain ADT.26.
