Abstract

Given the suitable variety and the required cultural conditions, soybean with its 42% of high quality protein and 21% of oil, has a high potential in India. A survey of the variability existing in the material is of primary importance, on which depends the correct choice of a suitable variety for growing in a particular tract having a particular set of environ- mental conditions. The greater the genetic diversity, the wider is the scope for improvement.
