The Inhibitory effect of different chemicals including 40 dyes, 4 purine and pyri- midine analogus, 5 growth regulators and 10 antibiotics on melon mosaic virus, cowpea mosaic virus and cucumber mosaic virus was investigated. The dyes were ineffective against all the three viruses tested. The purine ana ogue. 8-azaguanine and the pyrimidina analogue, 2-thiouracil inhibited the viruses and gibberellic acid and delayed the symptom. Marked inhibitory effects of trichothecin on cowpea mosaic virus and blasticidin-S on cucumber mosaic virus were observed.
