The nature of soil phosphorus has been the subject of much controversy. The data presented here suggest that the pattern of P supply can be predicted for different solle. The release pattern can be predicted by assuming a desorption type of reaction. The initial level of phosphate in the soil solution is not a good criterion of phosphate supplying pattern over a growing period of plants.
