Abstract

High heterosis was recorded for yield and number of bolls and medium for boll weight. Very little but significant heterotic effects were recorded in case of halo length and ginning percentage, while for seed index only negative heterosis was observed. It was revealed that genetic diversity between parents was essential to obtain high hetero- tic effects. Parents of interspecific origin and that originating from different eco- geographical regions seem to have a great promise. Various hybrids exhibited differen- tial response in different locations.
