Abstract

Incorporation of organic residues. farm yard manure or pig manure at 25 t/ha and removal of hard pans having high bulk density occurring at shallow depths in red soils of Pichanur series, Coimbatore district, increased the yield of sorghum (CSH 5). reduced the bulk density of soil and improved the physical properties like hydraulic conductivity, infiltr ation rate. porosity, stability index and aggregate stability. The organic carbon content of the soil was improved by the addition of the organic residues.
