A field trial was conducted with four phosphate (0, 30, 60 and 90 kg P, 0,/ha and three potash doses (0. 30 and 60 kg K, 0/ha) in the kharif season of 1978 at the Agricultural Farm of Banaras Hindu University to investigate its effect on the growth and yield of sunflower. Individuatty 90 kg P,0, and 60 kg K.0 brought about highest plant height, shoot dry weight, stem diameter. flower diameter, 1000 seed weight, oil content and grain yield of sunflower but failed to differ signifi- cantly with 60 kg P.0, and 30 kg K,0/ha respectively. 30 kg and 50 kg P,0./ha and 30 kg K,0/ha exhibited the highest nutrient use efficiency, beyond which it started declining.
