STUDIES IN THE COST OF PRODUCTION OF CROPS- (DRY PADDY IN SOUTH KANARA)

Abstract

The owner of the land cultivated this plot under his own management with the help of hired labour. The crop was completely rain-fed and hence there was no necessity for any irrigation. The seeds were soaked in water for 12 hours and kept moist for another 12 hours and then sown in dry nursery. The seeds were sown at the end of May and the seedlings were transplanted in the main field by the end of June. The field was manured well with river silt and cattle manure. The crop was left to itself without any after-cultivation and then it was harvest- ed at the beginning of October.
