Abstract

Fifty genotypes of soybean (Glycine max (L.) Merrill.) with diverse origin were studied for their genetic variability, character association and path analysis. The difference between the genotypes were highly significant for all the 10 characters studied. Among the characters, number of pods, seed yield, plant height and drymatter production showed high genotypic coefficient of variation. Correlation studies indicated that seed yield per plant showed significant positive correlation with drymatter production, number of branches, days to flowering, days to maturity and plant height. Path coefficient analysis showed that, among all the traits studied, dry matter production contributed most directly to seed yield.
