Abstract
Studies were conducted to evaluate spirotetramat 150 OD as foliar application
for its bioefficacy against the cotton aphid Aphis gossypii (Glover) in Tamil Nadu
Agricultural University, Coimbatore during 2007. Three field experiments were conducted
in farmers field locations in Coimbatore and Erode districts. The results of the studies
revealed that spirotetramat 150 OD at 75 g a.i./ha was highly effective in checking
the population of aphids and was on par with the standard check, imidacloprid 200
SL at 25 g a.i./ha. The spirotetramat 150 OD @ 75 g a.i./ha treated plots registered
a population of 7.0, 3.3 and 0.9 aphids/ 3 leaves in the first, second and third trials
respectively, while the untreated check in the respective trials registered a population
of 335.8, 58.6 and 17.2 aphids/ 3 leaves. All the spirotetramat treatments also resulted
in increased seed cotton yield under field conditions.
